16th Annual Star Screen awards 2010, Winners, Pics, Video

The countdown to the most-awaited event of the year – the Nokia 16th Annual STAR Screen Awards to be held on January 9, 2010 – begins. The tension is palpable, the excitement and anxiety have reached a crescendo. Since the nominations have been out, our office has been flooded with calls, many joyous, some disappointed and a few vexed. But more on that later.
Among the non-contenders from the industry, the reaction is mixed. Director Rohan Sippy loved Paa, 3 Idiots and Dev.D, which have notched up multiple nominations across categories. Filmmaker Goldie Behl is all for 3 Idiots, which he thinks was well-written. Amitabh Bachchan gets his vote for Best Actor “who was very convincing as the 13-year= old Progeria patient.” Desi girl Priyanka Chopra is his choice for Best Actress for her “fantastic performance in Kaminey.

Dino Morea thinks that it’s tough to decide on the best film between Love Aaj Kal, Paa, Kaminey and 3 Idiots. As for the best actor, though he thinks Aamir Khan did a remarkable job in 3 Idiots, it’s Amitabh Bachchan again in Paa who has blown him away. “No other actor could have pulled it off,” he gushes. The best actress according to him is a toss between Vidya Balan for Paa and Priyanka Chopra for Kaminey.

The Star Screen Awards has been the only Awards ceremony in India which has involved the Executive Director and the Governor of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The Nokia 16th annual STAR Screen Awards was  held at the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) grounds on Saturday, January 9, 2010.

138 hindi  films were released in the year 2009. Out of these 21 films have been selected for nominations for awards in various categories.

Online voting was arranged thru  www.starplus.in website and the winners were decided. Check nominations

Amitabh Bachchan won the award for best actor for his latest film “Paa”, and Vidya Balan won the best actress award for PAA again.

Best director award was won by Rajkumar Hirani and also shared the best screenplay award with Abhijat Joshi for his film “3 Idiots”.

“3 idiots” won the best film award.

The best female singer award was won by Kavita Sethi for her song “Ek tara” from “Wake Up Sid”, and the best male singer award was won by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for “Aaj din chadeya” from movie “Love Aaj Kal”.

Imitiaz Ali bagged the best story award for “Love Aaj Kal”.

The award for the best performance in a comic role went to Omi Vaidya for “3 Idiots”, while the award for thebest actor in a negative role went to Boman Irani for “3 idiots”.

A.R. Rahman won the best music award for “Delhi 6?.
